ポール・サイモンによるゴスペル調の名曲。ディキシー・ハミングバーズ、そしてスティービー・ワンダーとの共演映像。「悪魔のささやきに負けそうになったときには、母の深い愛が救ってくれる」という内容。何が起きても、大きな岩のように動じない母の愛とは、ゴスペルの大きなテーマの一つでしょうが、ウォーターゲート事件の渦中にいたニクソン大統領への皮肉も込められていることが伺えます。

偉大なソングライターの一人、ポール・サイモンの作品。ソロになってから、肩の力が抜けたのか、次から次へと多様な作品を発表。軽快なメロディの本作には、まるで短編小説のような味わいがあります。歌詞の中に、「白黒じゃ、パッとしない」と記されていますが、90年代からライブでは「白黒だと、全てがより良く見える(everything looks better in black and white) と変えて歌われているとか。
